If you plan to use iOS 14 for the time being, we have bad news. Apple wants you to quickly switch to iOS 15. The company says it was a temporary guide to people who did not yet need iOS 15. Earlier it was discussed that no more security updates will appear for iOS 14. Switching is therefore almost a must.
So it was never really intended for iPhone owners to continue using iOS 14. Apple really wants you to quickly download the update for iOS 15. That is what the company tells the editors of Ars Technica. By no longer releasing security updates, support for iOS 14 is in fact gone.
Apple wants you to switch
That is different language than when Apple released iOS 15. At the time, the company announced that users had the options for two operating systems. The iPhone maker would also release software updates for iOS 14 until people were willing to switch themselves. But the company is now completely back to that.
It was also not clear at the time that this was a temporary option for users. In September of 2021, Apple published an updated support document stating that iOS 14 can still be used for “a limited period of time”. Chances are you have not read this document.
From iOS 14 to iOS 15
The last update released for iOS 14 is iOS 14.8.1. That happened in October 2021 and no update has been released for that version of the system since then. When you check for updates for your iPhone now, you can upgrade to iOS 15.2.1 right away. Then it is officially done with iOS 14.
If you think it is important that you are better protected online against all kinds of dangers, it is important that you keep your software up-to-date. The fact that Apple uses this kind of practice to force people to switch is regrettable, since not everyone is happy with iOS 15.
