ASUS unveils a 500 Hz gaming monitor, a world first that does not lack advantages.
ASUS unveiled what it describes as the world’s first G-Sync 500 Hz gaming monitor, the ROG Swift 1080p 500 Hz. Designed and designed for competitive video games, this screen uses an “E-TN” panel (“eSports TN ”) and incorporates NVIDIA G-Sync eSports technology for ever sharper and more precise movements. The monitor also uses NVIDIA Reflex Analyzer technology, which provides real-time statistics to help you reduce latency if you use a mouse and an NVIDIA Reflex-compatible graphics card.

The important feature here is obviously the 500 Hz refresh rate, which is therefore eight times faster than on conventional 60 Hz screens. And ASUS does not hesitate to point this out. The company also promises response times reduced by 60% compared to standard TN panels, thanks to the new eSports TN technology. The monitor also includes a feature called Vibrance mode, implemented directly in the screen’s firmware. This is supposed to allow more light to pass through the LCD crystals, increasing color vibrancy and “allowing you to notice details and other clues that could give away enemy position,” says the manufacturer.
A world first with no shortage of advantages
G-Sync 500Hz displays are really geared towards competitive games like CS:GO, Valorant, Overwatch, and Rainbow Six Siege. NVIDIA also announced four new Reflex compatible games: Icarus, My Time at Sandrock, Soda Crisis and Warstride Challenges.
NVIDIA also posted a video, below, showing the benefits of high frame rates, including better animations for easier target tracking, minimal ghosting, and reduced latency. This “benefits all games and all players, not just competitive games and eSports”, explained NVIDIA in its own press release.
