Amazon continues to invest in automation: The latest fully automatic robot called Proteus is intended to support employees in various tasks in logistics. According to the company, the model is particularly safe thanks to special navigation technology.
Robots as a replacement for human labor?
The company has announced other robotic systems in addition to Proteus. One of them, Cardinal, is a robotic arm that can lift and move heavy packages. Amazon plans to deploy Cardinal in logic warehouses next year. With these innovations, Amazon wants to better protect and relieve its employees – but not replace them, as the company claims. It has always been about “people and technology working together safely and harmoniously to deliver for our customers”.
The group has also recently started using air support and has announced delivery by drone in Lockeford, California. The first Prime Air deliveries should land in the front yards of the test customers before the end of this year.
