The “Amazon Flex” delivery service is no longer available in Germany. The shipping platform wanted to use the program to make faster deliveries, but orders have recently been declining. It is not yet clear what actually led to the closure.
The vision behind Amazon Flex
With the service, the company wanted to respond to increased customer demands for speed and more flexibility. The first distribution center was opened in Olching near Munich in 2015. Over the years, more than 60 distribution centers have been added throughout Germany.
The delivery service was designed for the self-employed who wanted to earn money by delivering goods. This required the app and a registration with Amazon. The couriers were then assigned routes.
