It’s no secret that the Apple Watch is popular. However, new figures from the first quarter of 2022 show how great the supremacy of the smartwatch from Cupertino really is. Xiaomi and Huawei, in particular, have something to worry about.


The battle for the smartwatch market is increasingly becoming a duel between two top dogs: Apple and Samsung. This image appears when looking at the 5 best-selling smartwatches in the first quarter of 2022.

Top 5 Best Selling Smartwatches: Only Apple and Samsung represented

Right at the front is the current top model from Apple. the Apple Watch Series 7 takes first place, followed by Apple Watch SE. In times of record inflation, it’s probably not too surprising that Apple’s budget smartwatch snags the silver medal. Consumers need to keep their cash together and an Apple Watch SE offers many of the features of the more expensive model – but is around £130 cheaper than the Series 7.

Apple Watch Series 3 more popular than Xiaomi or Huawei smartwatches

Of the 5th place in the ranking of the best-selling smartwatch in the first quarter of 2022 goes to the Apple Watch Series 3. This is a double slap in the face for Xiaomi and Huawei. Both Chinese manufacturers not only miss out on the top 5 – they will too beaten by a smartwatch that’s almost 5 years old. The Apple Watch Series 3 was introduced in fall 2017.

According to insiders, the upcoming Galaxy Watch 5 should take a step back, at least visually, there is even talk of the “ugliest smartwatch of all smartphone manufacturers”. If that turns out to be true, Xiaomi and Huawei could seize the moment and grab a few market shares from Samsung with a smart smartwatch.
