After the new MacBook Air and Pro 13, with the M2 chip, the rumors start again. Mark Gurman talks about the return of the MacBook 12, along with a new 15-inch MacBook Air.

The return of the 12-inch MacBook

The 12-inch MacBook has already existed, it was the precursor to the next generation MacBooks. It was the first Mac equipped with a butterfly mechanism keyboard (which caused a lot of problems), it also had a single USB-C connection (and a headphone port), it was light and compact and above all one of the first machines to integrate a low-power Intel Core m. This is a variant of the Core i with very low consumption, the MacBook Retina was thus devoid of an active heat dissipation system.

No fan and therefore very quiet, this MacBook nevertheless quickly suffered from the heat generated and its performance was quickly reduced. Stuck between the iPad Pro and the MacBook Air, the MacBook didn’t have much of a future… Apple decided to simplify its MacBook range and remove this 12-inch format. With the new M1 and M2 chips, this MacBook 12 Retina could reappear. In any case, this is what Mark Gurman says.

A 15 inch format

Also according to Mark Gurman’s sources, a new 15-inch Air is being considered as a larger version of the 2022 MacBook Air unveiled at WWDC. According to the reporter, Apple originally planned to design the 2022 MacBook Air with a 15-inch display. However, Apple has reportedly decided to stick with a 13.6-inch screen that’s slightly larger than the 13.3-inch screen of the previous 2020 MacBook Air. Store-front analyst Ming Chi Kuo confirmed that this model is planned in the future, but it would not be intended for the Air range according to him.
