We don’t have to wait for the new Apple Watch 8 for new smartwatch features. If you would like to watch YouTube videos on the smart watch, you can do so now. All it takes is the new WatchTube app. It’s not only practical, it’s also free.
Apple Watch: Free app for YouTube videos introduced
The new YouTube app offers numerous functions. It’s hard to believe what’s possible on the relatively small screen of the Apple Watch. The developer advertises the app with the following features (translated):
- find your favorites among the content
- Play videos from YouTube
- Subscribing to channels
- suggested videos
- Course
- licked videos
- subtitle
- Privacy comes first

The starting point after starting the app is the respective YouTube feed, a list of current videos, which is later automatically adjusted according to usage behavior. Just like you know it from the YouTube page. Exciting: The developer promises an “audio-only feature” for the futurein which case you can also play videos without an active display and listen to songs directly, for example – quite practical (source: Reddit).
New features will also come with watchOS 9, let’s take a look:
What are users saying about the new app?
So far the app has been very well received in the App Store it already has 4.7 out of 5 maximum stars with currently 23 ratings. So you should definitely try it out. As a point of reference, one opinion has been singled out:
Finally! Videos on a clock
This app is wonderful! I’ve been looking everywhere for an app to watch videos on my watch but no one ever thought of it. This app works really well and the loading times are as seamless as a browser or an iPhone app.
The paired iPhone requires at least iOS 13, watchOS 6 is sufficient for the Apple Watch itself. Ergo: It doesn’t have to be the latest model.
