An icon has been around for ten years now

Apple celebrated an anniversary this past weekend. It has been ten years since the company presented the MacBook Pro with Retina screen. That Retina display ushered in “an entirely new vision for the notebook,” as the company beautifully describes it. The screen effectively brought a higher resolution to the popular laptop line.
Maybe you remember. The announcement took place during WWDC 2012. Apple made a lot of changes to the MacBook Pro at the time. Not only did the device get the beautiful Retina screen, but the design also changed a lot. The laptop was in fact much thinner than the previous model and that was easy to explain.

Apple removed the built-in Ethernet port, FireWire port, and the drive for CDs and DVDs. Which ports did you get? Well, two Thunderbolt, two USB-A and HDMI ports. Also included was an SD card reader, as well as a headphone jack and a MagSafe jack.
During the presentation of the MacBook Pro, which you can watch in the YouTube video above, Apple naturally had nice words about the device. “The MacBook Pro pushes the boundaries of performance and portability like no other laptop.” You can read that in the original press release of June 2012.
Highest resolution on a laptop
When the MacBook Pro with the Retina screen appeared on the market, the laptop had the highest resolution among its peers. The pixel density at the time was 220 pixels per inch. Under the hood was a third-generation Intel processor (quadcore), 16 GB of RAM and an SSD of 768 GB of storage.
Meanwhile, ten years later, there’s still a lot to like about the MacBook Pro line. Rumors about new versions regularly appear. The most recent variant, which is actually for sale, appeared in 2021. In our review you can read that the MacBook Pro is “finally back for the Pros”.
