From cybercriminals, spammers to those who spread hate speech or propagate violence … there are all kinds of users, and YouTube solves them in a short procedure, if it finds out they are on the platform and if they record their activities.
According to the Bankless Times, 3.75 million videos were removed from the platform in the fourth quarter of last year alone, and what says a lot is that as much as 30 percent or 1.2 million are those coming from India.
Of course, the second most populous country in the world is the absolute record holder, followed by the United States in the number of videos removed. These are 319,813 videos whose content does not meet the clearly prescribed rules of the platform.
Indonesia has 260,641 removed videos, Brazil 220,934, Russia 199,222 … It should be noted that the figures for Russia will not be in the second quarter of this year, and later, due to the withdrawal of Alphabet and all its services in that country, which decided to something like that as soon as the invasion of Ukraine started on February 24th.
Reasons to remove a video can also be intermediate types, that is, they can be listed by someone else. In this case, the Indian authorities requested that 22 channels be removed due to the spread of misinformation or incomplete information. YouTube then acted and did so, but the content expanded as all the unwanted channels had a total of 2.6 billion views.
Therefore, all this should be viewed with caution, because in Asia, many countries are headed by a government that reaches for censorship in response to criticism. And YouTube has its hands tied here, it must act in accordance with the laws of those countries, as well as in accordance with its own rules.
