Google is about to deploy an update to Chrome OS that will bring new functions. Chromebooks will be able to be connected more easily to headphones or a smartphone.
Chrome OS is a regularly updated and growing operating system. After new functions announced by Google during CES 2022 and Google I/O last May, Chromebooks will be improved this summer, in particular on the connection with smartphones and headphones. Other features will be presented later in the year, “that will allow all your devices to work better together“, we learn on the Google blog.
Access recent photos from your smartphone on your Chromebook
The developer of Chrome OS had set up Phone Hub, a control center for his smartphone directly in the system which allows you to respond to messages, see the battery of your smartphone or even activate connection sharing. The latest Chrome OS update adds access to the latest photos taken with the connected smartphone.

As soon as you take a picture with it, it appears in Phone Hub. You can then click on the image to download and use it. Enough to stop sending photos by email or going through a cloud service.
Connect your Chromebook via Wi-Fi using your smartphone
Chrome OS now allows you to connect your Chromebook to a Wi-Fi network saved on a smartphone thanks to Nearby Share (the sharing function near Android). To do this, you have to go to the Wi-Fi settings of your smartphone, access the network to which you are connected. We then create a QR code to connect to it. In the menu that appears, you can click on “Share via “Proximity Sharing”», All you have to do is select the Chromebook that will appear. The latter will receive all the connection information and save it, even for the next times.

Google immediately announces that Nearby Sharing is improved overall, stating that it is “now even easier to get started with a streamlined onboarding process and sharing is up to 10x faster than before ».
Quickly connect headphones on Chrome OS
Fast Pair is coming to Chromebooks this summer. As a reminder, this technology makes it possible to quickly pair headphones, headsets and Bluetooth speakers in one click, like what is found at Apple. In practice, you can simply open the case of your headphones and the computer will offer you in a window that will open to pair them.

On Chromebooks,Fast Pair also saves the connection to your Google account, so your Chromebook or new Android phone will remember your headphones and connect to them seamlessly in the future ».
Native Chrome OS screen recorder is coming
Google is also announcing a new version of Screencast, the Chrome OS screen recorder that “allows anyone to save, trim and share transcribed videos automatically uploaded to Google Drive“. You can also draw and write on the screen during recordings to illustrate the videos. Screencast will be rolled out in the coming days.
