Does your favorite app use the Apple video player? Then you get more control! | TechBuzz

When your favorite app on one of Apple’s platforms uses the default video player, you may gain access to more options. The company is bringing playback speeds to iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura and even tvOS 16. The latter platform in particular will receive very little attention during WWDC 2022.

It’s good to see that Apple hasn’t forgotten about tvOS. Within the living room, this is probably one of the company’s most important systems. But it doesn’t get a lot of attention or important updates. Possibly because the software works well; But that doesn’t change the fact that new features are just welcome.

Apple video player receives additional options

For example, Apple’s standard video player, available on all mentioned platforms, gains access to additional options regarding playback speed. The options are 0.5x, 1.0x, 1.25x, 1.5x and 2.0x. However, developers are given the option to modify the list of speeds themselves as they see fit.

How you set up the Apple video player differs per operating system. If you want to control the playback speed on your iPhone, press the circle with the three dots. Want to adjust the speed of your videos on macOS? Then press >>. And on tvOS you click on the new timer button that is on the screen.

Does every app get this now?

Unfortunately, not every app gets access to this now. However, the options are present by default in the SDKs for developers. SDK stands for software development kit; this is a package that developers can use to build their applications. So developers can choose to add the options or not.
