The wallet and other relevant components will be offered to Member States and other stakeholders to implement the requirements of the European Digital Identity Framework Regulation. From the end of 2022, it will be tested in large pilot projects. The agreement will cover development work for the wallet example, support software for its ecosystem, as well as implementation support to Member States between the 4th quarter of 2022 and the end of 2023. The contractor is expected to develop a prototype wallet and update this prototype in the next two editions.
As early as last June, the EC proposed a reliable and secure European digital identity for all Europeans, including the EU digital wallet, so that every EU citizen residing in the EU will be able to use a personal digital wallet, which will allow him to identify himself when using electronic services, storage and management of personal data and storage of official documents in electronic form.
According to the EC, the new digital wallet will be able to store personal data such as a driver’s license, doctor’s prescription or diploma in electronic form, which will be very useful.
In addition, with the help of a digital wallet, citizens will be able to prove their identity when requested by a particular digital service, will be able to share digital documents or prove a certain personal characteristic, such as age, without revealing their identity or any other personal information not required. that transaction. This is extremely important because of the attention around the availability of various personal data, but also the possibility of identity theft.
