Adding first-person mode isn’t easy, though, because it’s not just about changing camera positions. The introduction of FPS mode potentially requires hundreds of new first-person animations, as well as a completely new targeting and jerk system. These are just some of the considerations to make first-person play make sense, especially in a multiplayer competitive title.
Changing perspectives in battle royale games is nothing new. Most battle royale games offer players first or third person mode (e.g. PUBG) or are completely first person (e.g. Apex Legends). The possibility of playing Fortnite as a first-person shooter would also mark Epic’s return to his roots, because before Fortnite, Epic was widely known for the cult Unreal Tournament.
