If the style of a product is certainly a matter of taste, certain trends end up imposing themselves as fairly unmistakable criteria. This is particularly the case for the borders around the screen. Beyond a certain price, we expect not to notice them too much. When it was announced, the Pixel Watch had been heavily criticized for this and it could be that Samsung follows the same path with the Galaxy Watch 5.
In any case, this is what we can interpret from the words of the leaker Ice Universe on his Twitter account, very attached to the finesse of the edges. He writes : “The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series just got uglier. This is perhaps the ugliest watch among cell phone manufacturers. The gap between the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and the Apple Watch is widening. »
Ice Universe is generally reliable, but it has happened to be wrong here and there, so you have to take this information with a minimum of hindsight.

It seems that the leaker is focusing in his judgment on the famous Pro model, expected with a very long battery life and therefore a larger size. It indicates for example: “You will see the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro with a very large bezel. Its design is far from being comparable to that of the Apple Watch 7. It is not aesthetic. »
To support its point, Ice Universe has also published a representation of the front of the future watch. You can see the border in black and the metal frame in gray.
If the border is that wide, it should actually stand out against a colored wallpaper. On the other hand, remember that the manufacturers of connected watches have a habit of integrating many wallpapers with a black base to better blend the border into the dial, thanks to the off pixels of an Oled screen. Most users will therefore not necessarily realize the size of the border here.
Let’s add that given the resounding success of the Galaxy Watch 4, Samsung has every interest in negotiating the turn on its next model. In view of what the leaker is saying, it’s going badly, but let’s keep hope all the same.
