A new interactive Android widget provides information about live traffic and the immediate surroundings on the mobile home screen.

Google has started rolling out the previously announced Google Maps widget, as reported by GoogleWatchBlog. The «Traffic nearby» widget shows the live traffic and the immediate surroundings.
So when you’re on the road, you can see at a glance what the local traffic might be like. Because Android widgets are tappable, you can zoom in and out without opening the Maps app, according to Google.

The usual blue dot shows the current location. There should be a zoom button to enlarge or reduce the section. However, you can’t seem to move the map section.

According to the report, the widget appears among the first users who use Google Maps from version 11.35.1. On Android 12 (including Pixel 3 or later), widgets have become more important and Google blogged about various improved widget functions in the fall.
