The rumor that the iPhone 14 Pro will have an Always-On display has been around for a long time. Mark Gurman, a technology journalist at Bloomberg, is now almost certain, thanks in part to iOS 16.
An Always-On display shows the lock screen, in a slightly different form, constantly. Something that lends itself very well to iOS 16’s new lock screen with widgets.
Always-On voor iPhone 14 Pro en Pro Max
“Like the Apple Watch, the iPhone 14 Pro will be able to show widgets and data while keeping the screen on at low brightness.” That message can be read in the most recent edition of Power On, Mark Gurman’s newsletter. People have been talking about an Always-On display for a long time and iOS 16 has only made those rumors stronger. The new lock screen, with widgets and customization options, lends itself to the functionality.
We have seen such a setup before. As Gurman says, the most recent Apple Watch models, except for the SE, are equipped with the functionality. A nice addition that really takes the screen of the smartwatch to a higher level. On the other side of the market, there are already countless Android smartphones that also have such functionality. Experience has taught us that Always-On on a smartphone is of less importance than with a smartwatch.

It is unknown how much impact Always-On will have on the battery of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. We do know that Apple ProMotion will also be adjusted with the new models. Where the refresh rate can currently be reduced to 10Hz, it will be possible with the new technology to 1Hz. Ideal for the functionality Gurman is talking about.
Not just the screen
On the front of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, not only the display itself will be adjusted. The new devices may have a new pill-shaped notch and an improved selfie camera. This costs Apple considerably more to produce, but will provide the consumer with quite a few benefits.
Selfie camera iPhone 14 now also a major upgrade according to Kuo
Curious reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has to say about that? Be sure to read the above article.
