Trying to distinguish the real from the virtual will become increasingly complex. Thanks especially to tools like the upcoming Unreal Engine 5. The Epic Games engine gave birth to Ana, a “hyperrealistic virtual human”, dedicated to making people talk about her in entertainment of all kinds.
Video games and reality are getting confused more and more often and it’s not going to get any easier. In any case, that’s what we can say to ourselves when we meet Ana, a newcomer to the Krafton company, to whom we owe PUBG : Battlegrounds or the next one The Callisto Protocol.
Ana isn’t the new art director for the group’s next game. It’s a “hyperrealistic virtual human”, as spotted by the Xboxygen site. Larger than life, Ana is a virtual entity and the future star of Krafton.
A hyper-realistic virtual human
Unsurprisingly, it owes its birth to the Unreal Engine, as well as rigging and deep learning developed by Krafton. If she is going to integrate the house ecosystem and be called upon for many projects, Ana has a fairly clear first mission: to encourage “the interest and popularity of Gen Z around the world”. In other words, Ana is going to be a virtual artist ready (for anything?) to create a buzz.
And for that, its designers have already planned the release of a musical title and a role “influencer in various fields of entertainment and esports”. A funny mix in sight…
But she will not be the first to give of her virtual person. Many artists « digital native » have already seen the light of day and some even give concerts all over the world in the form of holograms or computer-generated images. We think in particular of the influencer Lil Miquela or the artist Hatsune Miku. Nevertheless, Krafton relies on the hyperrealistic rendering of Ana to stand out. She should even enjoy a “single story arc” to talk about her. It remains to be seen whether it will be in the cinema or in a video game. Krafton says Ana will help develop her own “Web 3.0 ecosystem”. We should therefore find it in particular in its next virtual reality and metaverse experiences.
