The iPhone has a very complete Calculator application. With its scientific features and some more or less hidden tricks.
L’application Calculator iPhone is one of those applications that we take for granted on the smartphone. You may use it a few times a week, but don’t ask yourself more questions than that about how it works. However, this innocuous little app can do more than you think, whether it’s scientific calculations or hidden functionality.
Easily switch to scientific mode
If you have not locked the automatic rotation of the screen – which is controlled in the control center -, simply turn the iPhone in landscape mode for the Calculator app to switch to scientific mode, with its functions dedicated.
Erase digits with a simple swipe
You probably won’t need the scientific calculator very often, but you will need to erase a number once in a while: just swipe left or right on the top of the screen to erase a number quickly without having to retype your entire transaction.
Quickly clear current digits or all
We forgive you for mixing up the functionality behind the “C” button and the “AC” button. Here’s the difference: if you want to erase the numbers you just typed on the screen, you need the “C” (“Clear”) button. The “AC” (“All Clear”) button, on the other hand, will erase what you have just typed and all the previous steps of the calculation.
There are two ways to copy the last result: tap and hold the numbers at the top of the screen and tap the “Copy” button or tap and hold the Calculator app and directly copy the last result without even opening it. ‘application.
Calculate without the Calculator app
This last tip doesn’t really have to do with the Calculator app, but it’s something every iPhone user should know. Like Mac, iPhone has basic calculation functionality in Search. This means that it is possible to perform calculations simply by swiping down from the home screen.
Spotlight lets you do some basic mathematical operations, but also conversions of currencies, units (something that the Calculator app cannot do). And if you don’t want to type your operations, you can orally ask Siri to calculate.
