iPhone 14: Apple is donating more battery capacity – but not with every model

The biggest plus of the still current iPhone 13 compared to the iPhone 12 was and is certainly the increase in battery capacity. According to rumors in Chinese social media, this should also be the case with the iPhone 14 (source: ShrimpApplePro). However, this does not apply to all new models, because the iPhone 14 Pro Max even has slightly less space for the battery storage. A concrete look at the expected capacities and a comparison of the values:

  • iPhone 14: 3.279 mAh vs. iPhone 13: 3.227 mAh vs. iPhone 12: 2.815 mAh
  • iPhone 14 Max: 4,325 mAh – new model, no comparison values
  • iPhone 14 Pro: 3.200 mAh vs. iPhone 13 Pro: 3.095 mAh vs. iPhone 12 Pro: 2.815 mAh
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max: 4.323 mAh vs. iPhone 13 Pro Max: 4.352 mAh vs. iPhone 12 Pro Max: 3,687 mAh

The iPhone 14 Pro will benefit the most from the stronger growth. However, the jump is much smaller than last year. In practice, this should not really affect the runtime. The new 5G radio chip in the iPhone 14, which we already reported on in February, could be even more important. It is more energy-efficient and leaves a little more space for the battery. Space that Apple is rumored to actually use, only with the Pro Max this doesn’t seem to work out completely in the end.

Of course, such rumors should always be viewed with a pinch of skepticism. None of this sounds improbable, however. We will only find out later whether the data turns out to be correct. Not directly from Apple, by the way. The manufacturer never advertises with the absolute capacities, but only with the running times of the installed batteries. The exact capacities then bring so-called teardowns to light when resourceful hobbyists disassemble the new iPhones piece by piece.
