It has been four years since Lime electric scooters first appeared in Paris. In 2020, the American operator was able to win one of the precious sesames issued by the town hall as part of a call for tenders aimed at limiting the number of services within the capital. With a fleet of electric bikes, trendy scooters and electric scooters, Lime has made a name for itself in the urban landscape of micromobility. And to stand out from the competition, the group has decided to deploy a new generation of much more efficient battery, we learn TechCrunch.

Increased autonomy

To put it simply, Lime’s electric scooters will see their autonomy go from simple to double from one battery to another. With a bit more than 30 kilometers of range today, they should therefore easily reach 60 kilometers. On the bicycle side, the brand does not communicate any figures.

According TechCrunchthis new generation battery would be perfectly compatible with the latest version of Lime electric scooters, introduced in November 2020. There will therefore be no need to replace the scooter fleet, only the batteries that equip them.

The curious Citra two-wheeler – neither a bicycle nor a scooter – which we presented to you in mid-June, will also be able to benefit from it. Moreover, its launch city (Long Beach) coincides perfectly with the intentions of Lime, which reserves its new battery for this Californian agglomeration, but also for Paris.

Multiple benefits

This technical advance has several advantages for both users and the operator. Inevitably, customers will be able to travel further. They will also have to deal with reserves of greater autonomy on the machines borrowed.

For the company, sustainable cost savings are necessarily attractive. Those employed to charge the e-scooter fleet should reduce their number of round trips and charging sessions. Consequences: Lime will save time, and probably money.
