Netflix and CD Projekt Red have just unveiled the very first trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an animated series based on the Cyberpunk 2077 video game. The two entities formalized this project in 2020 and have been working on its development since 2018. And the least that the we can say is that expectations are high, and not only from video game fans.
Netflix and CD Projekt Red unveil the first trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
This 10-part story revolves around a street kid turned mercenary edgerunner. All of this, of course, takes place in Night City, “a city of the future obsessed with technology and body modification,” according to the description that accompanies the video posted on Netflix’s YouTube channel. CD Projekt Red is producing on this project with Rafal Jaki as showrunner – The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077 – but the animation is being done by Japanese company Studio Trigger.
An animated series that will take you back to the streets of Night City
If the name of Studio Trigger means something to you, it is because it is to the latter that we owe series like Kill la Kill or even Promare and we must admit that Edgerunners is very similar to what better this studio. Better yet, an additional guarantee of success if we can say, the series will be produced by the founder of Studio Trigger, Hiroyuki Imaishi, with Hiromi Wakabayashi in charge of character design. The soundtrack, meanwhile, will be composed by Akira Yamaoka – Silent Hill -. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is expected to hit the streaming platform sometime in September.
In any case, this should perfectly complete the universe that we were able to discover with the game Cyberpunk 2077. Still a few months of patience before being able to (re) dive into the streets of Night City.
