The smartphone market is oversaturated with devices, and even the biggest players like Samsung seem to be struggling with sales. Reportedly, as many as 50 million Samsung phones are stamped and lie in distribution chains.
Samsung has planned to ship 270 million phones this year, and this 50 million is 18% of that.
Reportedly, the Galaxy A series phones are selling the weakest, probably because this year’s models do not bring a significant upgrade compared to last year’s models.
We saw that the new Galaxy A53 5G is hard to deal with last year’s Galaxy A52s phone, which for many is still a better choice and is more affordable.
Due to such a large stock of phones, Samsung reduced production by 50% in May, and in the period from April to May, component orders were reduced by 30-70%.
All in all, it is certainly at least partly a consequence of rising inflation and insecurity due to the war in Ukraine.
