The Meta subsidiary Instagram announces a new form of age verification. In the future, users will be able to confirm their age with an ID card or selfie video.

While Facebook has more and more problems activating young users, Instagram continues to enjoy great popularity. There have been rumors for some time that the provider is working on a special form for minors. A new announcement from Meta gives a glimpse of a new age verification method coming soon.

The method is reminiscent of various identification procedures that we mainly know from banks in this country. In addition to the option of submitting an ID card or asking people who know you, you can now also submit a selfie video. Here, Meta cooperates with the provider Yoti, an identification method that received good marks from the Commission for the Protection of Minors in the Media last year. The provider relies exclusively on the moving image and does not require any other data such as an ID card.
