Michael Hirst would like to revive the Vikings TV series without the help of Netflix.
Invited to the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, the creator of the series Vikings said he was preparing a potential sequel after six seasons and 89 episodes: “I miss Ragnar and his sons. They are like friends. I lived with them for so long… Every morning, when I walked into my office, it was like I was going to find out what they were up to… So it is possible that we see you soon… I say it like that… But it’s possible! I’m currently considering a project with some of the characters who would be returning…”

Michael Hirst does not wish to link the story with the spin-off broadcast on the Netflix streaming platform: “We’re really in the early stages of the project, so I can’t say much more… But I know how much people love these characters and would love to see them again… I’m not involved with Valhalla at all because showrunner Jeb Suart is an action writer. I’m more interested in the characters. So here it is… I don’t watch the series… I don’t really have a reason to. I don’t want to hurt myself (…) I wasn’t really involved in the project and I watch quite a few series… Me, I was done. I made my saga. Then they do what they want.”
Fans love Vikings, Michael Hirst is touched
The endless craze for the Vikings license surprised Michael Hirst a lot: “It’s pretty great that people are still so passionate. When I came to Lille for the Series Mania festival last March, I was followed in the streets by a crowd of people! This is the first time this has happened to me! I did not understand why, I said ‘I am only the author of the series you know’, but they answered me ‘No, no, you are Mr Vikings’. It’s a thing still alive after all“. The Brit is also happy with the end of the last season: “Two old gentlemen chatting, sitting on a beach, talking about existentialism… Oh yeah!“
