Vivo Y76 5G review: Affordable mid-range phone! | TechBuzz

Vivo Y76 5G is one of Vivo’s latest attempts to implement 5G capabilities in a mid-range device. The device has a decent set of features with a MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G, a 6.58-inch FullHD + IPS screen and a rear-facing camera setup with a 50MP f / 1.8 main lens. Vivo with this model enters the highly sought after segment of affordable phones, which offers a pretty good value for money, so we’ll see why this phone would be more desirable compared to similarly equipped devices.

The first thing that greets you when you open the box is the transparent mask, which is a big plus. The test model came in the shade Cosmic Aurora. Another available option is called Midnight Space, which has a “more refined” impression, for fans of darker phone colors.

We personally don’t mind big smartphones. It is also desirable that they be thin, without acting fragile and sensitive. In this case, the Vivo Y76 is large and thin and does not look fragile in the hand. It is only 7.79 mm thick, which is why it acts as a more expensive premium device. The 6.58-inch flat screen looks nice, especially if you don’t like using smartphones with curved screens, but because of all that, the device looks elongated and bigger than it actually is.

The box contains the usual auxiliary gadgets for the Vivo device, including the Y76 5G itself, a USB Type-C cable, a 44 W charging adapter, a pair of headphones, a silicone cover and, of course, documentation.

vivo Y76 5G: Design and appearance

The Y76 5G has the classic Vivo design of a mid-range device: a slim body, smooth edges and a large camera module. Its case is made of plastic and it can be said that it is quite strong, because it does not allow any bending. The back is matte for its cosmic aurora variant with minimal reflection, so fingerprints won’t be very noticeable, but it will still stay and be visible, especially if the device is illuminated by light.

The sides of the device are rounded to be more comfortable in the hand, and the phone sits quite well in the hand. The volume control key and the power key are located on the right side of the phone. The first has a decent tactility, while the second is a bit softer when pressed. Its hybrid SIM tray pops up at the top and can hold two SIM cards or one SIM card with a MicroSD card to expand the memory.

Vivo Y76 5G slots

At the bottom are the expected sum of slots and grilles for the mid-range device: grilles for the lower speaker and microphone, a 3.5mm audio jack for those who like cable headphones and a USB Type-C jack with 44W charging support.

vivo Y76 5G: Display and sound capabilities

The Vivo Y76 5G has a 6.58-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 2408 x 1080p. This is a perfectly fine screen for most users and it is worth mentioning that the screen can create around 420 nits of brightness, which is a respectable feature for a phone of this price range.

Not only that, the screen has a surprisingly wide range of colors for a mid-range device. The colors are well reproduced, but not as saturated as we would like and it lacks a bit of green hues in the default settings. The measured brightness is approximately 420 nits advertised by Vivo and is able to give an excellent display even if the device is exposed to direct sunlight. The contrast ratio is lower, however, because it has “only” an IPS panel.

Vivo Y76 5G screen

  • sRGB – 99,40%
  • AdobeRGB – 81.70%
  • DCI-P3 – 96.80%
  • Brightness (minimum) – 1.82cd / m2
  • Brightness (maximum) – 415.61cd / m2
  • Gama – 2,23
  • Contrast ratio – 1225: 1

The device relies only on the lower speakers for external sound instead of amplifying the sound from the headphones to get stereo sound. All in all the sound is decent and nothing special, but it definitely does its job. All in all, the sound capabilities of the device are good, the treble can become slightly weaker at maximum volume, and the bass lacks a slightly stronger beat, which is to be expected for a mid-range phone. Fortunately, the vocals remain clear and well recognizable.

Software capabilities

The Y76 5G is one of the first devices to come standard with Funtouch OS 12. It’s still based on Android 11, but brings new improvements to the experience, including new widgets, featured albums on the home screen, and a new multi-task network layout.

Previous operating system features are still available, as are standard Android options. These include dark mode, multi-window support, a drop-down command center, detailed icon customization, and there’s Ultra Game Mode, as well as Extended RAM to help with more demanding games and applications.

Camera capabilities

There are three cameras in the large camera frame on the back: a 50 MP f / 1.8 main lens, a 2 MP f / 2.4 macro recorder and a 2 MP f / 2.4 depth sensor. We only need an ultra-wide-angle lens to make the experience complete. Unfortunately, such a set of cameras is found mainly in more expensive devices.

The camera app has all the standard options including accessories such as photo, video, night mode, live photo, professional mode, dual exposure, panorama, time lag, documents, slow motion, AR and dual display.

Video includes support for 720p and 1080p at 60fps, but there is no 4K option at 30fps. It has a stabilization that does a good job of stabilizing the shots, but there is a certain stickiness to the frame when the device is moved.

Main camera

The Level Y76 5G main camera originally captures 12.5 MP photos, although it can capture 50 MP photos using its 50 MP mode. Photos taken with the main camera show a good amount of detail, but the colors are a little lower in saturation. There is no obvious increase in sharpness via software which makes everything look natural, although the dynamic range could be wider on high contrast shots.

Examples of photos taken with the Vivo Y76 5G main camera:

Macro lens

Its 2MP f / 2.4 camera is actually a standard option expected from a mid-range device. The colors are uniform and give less detail due to fewer pixels. It can approach subjects, but due to poor performance it is better to stick to the main camera.

Camera selfie

In front is a 16 MP f / 2.0 selfie camera. The captured photos have a good display of colors and natural skin tones. The dynamic range is a bit low and tends to show noticeable graininess in low light conditions. Portrait mode has a few unusual things with some of the objects merging with the background, especially with the strangely shaped objects.

Vivo Y76 5G performance

vivo Y76 5G: Device performance

The MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G is powered by the Vivo Y76 5G. It is a solid chipset for mid-range devices, which brings a good balance of price and performance capabilities. The overall performance is what you would expect: minimal latency and minimal jamming during normal and intensive use.

Synthetic reference numbers are pretty good. The Y76 5G scored 328,022 points in AnTuTU, 1,660 points for multi core in GeekBench, 6,506 in PCMark Work 3.0 and 1,101 in 3DMark Wild Life.

Vivo Y76 5G gaming

Mainstream games will run smoothly on the Y76 5G. Competitive games such as League of Legends: Wild Rift, Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG Mobile will run smoothly with a stable fps at the highest possible chipset settings. Genshin Impact works steadily at both low and medium preset values, but has difficulty when all graphics capabilities are set to maximum.

Vivo Y76 5G

Battery life

The 4100 mAh battery is a battery that powers the Vivo Y76 5G. It’s not as big as the 5000 mAh batteries we’ve seen in the entry-level and mid-range segment, but it still provides very good usage time. The device can last about a day with medium use in addition to office work, watching movies on Netflix and occasionally playing games. Running a quick battery test PCMark Work 3.0 reveals that it will be able to last more than 20 hours, combining various workloads such as video, editing and average internet browsing.

As mentioned, its USB Type-C port offers a powerful 44W fast charge. While not the fastest charging technology on the mid-range market, it still charges the battery fairly quickly; in about 80 minutes it will charge the battery from 0 to 100%.

Alive Y76

Conclusion

Vivo Y76 5G comes with a lot of very good features, especially for one device of around 2,399 kn. It comes with a decent screen and performance, relatively long battery life, slim design and a set of very good cameras. But in such a crowded middle-ranking segment, it is difficult to fight for the very top, because the competition is more than strong.

Despite fierce competition, the Vivo Y76 5G is still the perfectly competent smartphone on the market. Those who love the Vivo features and ecosystem here will get the same quality experience they expect.

The Vivo Y76 5G will be an ideal smartphone for anyone who does not expect a huge number of the latest features on their new, smartphone and is ready to set aside 5-6,000 kn for the device. At a price of 2,399kn, the device has great potential to be accepted by a large number of potential customers. All in all, for that price you get a smartphone with a very good screen, very good cameras, very good battery life, nice appearance, which some will think is a premium model.
