Volkswagen announces ID. Aero: the concept prefiguring its first electric sedan, the ID.7. Intended for the Chinese, European and American markets, the future ID.7 is proving to be very promising.
Last week, Volkswagen gave us an appointment for the formalization of the concept car ID. Aero. The veil has finally been lifted by the German manufacturer. We discover a long sedan of 5 meters, with worked aerodynamics, which would approach very closely to the future ID.7 marketed in China. In Europe, we will also be entitled to an ID.7, but a priori slightly reworked, to better suit the local market.
Volkswagen does not use the term ID.7, but it is on all languages, especially since the manufacturer announces it as the 6th electric car, after the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID .6 and ID. buzz. If you do not know the ID.6, it is normal, since it is a model only marketed in China, for the moment.
A range of 620 km and a battery of 77 kWh
The Volkswagen ID. Aero unveiled by Volkswagen should compete with other sedans in the segment (we think in particular of the Tesla Model 3) thanks to good efficiency. There is indeed talk of a range of 620 km (WLTP standard) with its 77 kWh battery.
The technical basis is obviously the MEB platform allowing the brand to offer ” a small overhang, a long wheelbase and a lot of space inside« .
However, it will still be necessary to wait before having a glimpse of the interior, since Volkswagen only shows the exterior of the future ID.7 intended for the Chinese market. The front face takes up the signature of the ID range by widening slightly, with an LED bar which links the two optics together. The look is aggressive and Volkswagen explains it by aerodynamic considerations, allowing to announce a drag coefficient of 0.23 either… the same as the Tesla Model 3!
A little fastback side
On the side of the vehicle, 22 inch rims reinforce the feeling of a large premium sedan. At the rear, there is a small fastback side thanks to the roof which comes to finish its course on the small trunk. The rear light signature, specific to the ID. Aero, proves the concept car side of the vehicle, just like the absence of handles. These have in fact been replaced by a tactile surface, in order to improve aerodynamicsand therefore the range of the car.
Arrival scheduled for 2023 in China
But there is no doubt that the engineers will take up the general idea of the concept for the production vehicle, which should thus be named Volkswagen ID.7. The German brand confirms that this electric car will be available in China from the second half of 2023. Volkswagen clarifies that Europe and the United States are also targeted, but later. What definitively bury the Volkwagen Passat.
