YouTube Music now looks a little better on our tablets | TechBuzz

True to its promises, Google is launching an update to the YouTube Music interface on Android tablets. This slight redesign should in particular make it possible to better exploit the display space offered by their large screens.

Optimizing without revolutionizing is Google’s approach to YouTube Music on tablets. As promised at the I / O 2022 conference, the Mountain View giant has lent itself to a new redesign of the interface of its music streaming application. The objective is to make it, little touch by little touch, more relevant on the large screens of our tablets or other devices of the same size.

The main new feature of this interface update concerns the display of albums in portrait mode. Compared to what we knew until now, YouTube Music now indicates at the top the artist, the type of content selected (album in this case) and its year of release. The album cover (significantly larger than before) is displayed just below on a colored background resuming its hues, followed by the name of the album and a short description to scroll down.

Just below are the usual controls, like download, add to library, play/pause button, share, and access other functions via a three-dot menu. The list of songs is centered below these commands, without any particular change compared to what we found until then. Of course, this layout is different in landscape format. The information and commands then remain in a column on the left, while the list of songs is installed on the right half of the screen.

This discreet, but effective modernization makes it possible to better exploit the available display space instead of stupidly stretching the main components of the interface in an artificial way. Google should continue to improve the YouTube Music tablet interface gradually. A few days ago, the group had for example slightly redesigned the presentation of the playlists of its application.

Note, however, that this novelty (which has just begun to be deployed) only concerns Android tablets, specifies 9to5Google. However, it would be surprising if it did not extend to the iPads thereafter.
