Amazon raises prices for Prime: annual subscription climbs from 69 to 90 euros
Amazon is getting serious: The Prime subscription is becoming more expensive for customers in Germany. From September 15, 2022, the Monthly price from 7.99 to 8.99 euros. If you decide to pay annually, you have to accept an even bigger price jump: Instead of 69 euros, 89.90 euros are due.
Amazon is currently informing its Prime customers about this by email. The announcement states that the new prices apply from September 15, but then not immediately hit all subscribers. Instead, the change will be due with the first payment after September 15.
Is Prime Video the right streaming choice for you? Our comparison helps:
New customers in particular can still secure the old prices: the perfect savings tactic would be to take out a Prime subscription on September 14 and choose annual payment. So you could still watch series, films, Prime delivery and other included services a whole year longer at the old price. If you are unsure, use the 30-day free trial with Amazon Prime (view at Amazon).
That Problem for existing customers: You can’t just push back your payment dates and delay the new prices for as long as possible. Rather, the date depends on the start of your subscription. As Amazon informs, you can see your payment period in the Amazon account. This way you will know exactly when the price increase will hit you.
If you don’t want to accept that, you can cancel the subscription within 30 days of receiving the information. Amazon must allow its customers this choice if the contract conditions are changed unilaterally. The subscription will then continue until the end of the current payment period. Those who do not cancel, on the other hand, have to pay the more expensive prices.
Not because of inflation: Amazon has been planning higher prices for a long time
Amazon cites the reason for the rising prices in its announcement “general and significant cost changes due to inflation”. In fact, new prices for Germany have been expected for longer than the current high-price phase. Most recently, after the price increase in the USA in winter, a similar step was to be expected for the German market.
