Two years after the presentation of the Lyriq, an electric SUV concept, Cadillac this time lifts the veil on a sedan, called Celestiq. Its sale price could reach 300,000 dollars!
In February 2020, Cadillac took everyone by surprise by unveiling an all-new model, in the form of a concept. An astonishing electric SUV called Lyriq, which then announced a real turning point for the American brand, which normally goes hand in hand with large V6s in the collective imagination. A few months later, this style study took its first steps before the public at the New York show.
Its commercial launch is scheduled for 2024 and it could also arrive here a little later, as suggested by General Motors, which sees in electric an opportunity to return to Europe. But this concept should not stand alone for long. Indeed, Cadillac has just lifted the veil on a second electric concept, which this time takes the form of a sedan.
A modern style but inspired by the past
Called Celestiq, this foreshadows a top-of-the-range model that should indeed see the light of day in the coming years, alongside the large electric SUV. This large sedan also aims to induct a new styling direction for the brand, with its silhouette leaning towards the fastback coupe, which might remind us of the recently unveiled new Ioniq 6. If the lines may seem new, however, we recognize the signature of the American brand, with the very angular design, as well as the front panel sporting a large grille. Very futuristic, it is surrounded by two very fine optics and luminous “fangs”.
But if the overall style seems very modern, the manufacturer’s press release emphasizes that the latter drew inspiration from its past. Indeed, the latter notably went to seek the side of the Eldorado Brougham, released in 1957. A reference which is not necessarily obvious at first glance, it must be admitted. But like the big sedan at the time, the new Celestiq wants to set itself as the benchmark in the segment over the next few years.
A high-end cocoon
On board this Cadillac Celestiq, the presentation is obviously very modern, even futuristic. We indeed discover a huge 55-inch digital panel crossing the entire dashboard. It is also reminiscent of the Hyperscreen of the Mercedes EQS and offers amazing functionality. Indeed, the passenger can watch a video without it being visible to the driver, so as not to distract him.
Other smaller screens are scattered around the cockpit, one of which is dedicated to air conditioning settings. The occupants also benefit from a large glass roof with a specificity: each person can choose the level of opacity they want.
And Cadillac specifies that this concept presents a preview of innovative materials and technologies, the firm does not give additional details on this subject. However, we can assume that this Celestiq is adorned with upholstery made with sustainable materials such as fabric made from recycled bottles, which is increasingly present on recent models. We will then have to wait to find out more about this.
An autonomous concept
For the time being, Cadillac does not provide any information on the technical sheet of its electric concept. However, we know that it is based on the Ultium platform, dedicated to the group’s electric models. This has several features and advantages, since it allows in particular to be able to stack the battery cells vertically or horizontally. Moreover, it adapts to all architectures, with two or four-wheel drive.
This technical base is also compatible with the 800-volt technology fitted in particular to the Porsche Taycan and other Kia EV6s and allowing faster charging thanks to greater power.
In its press release, Cadillac specifies that this concept is also equipped with the latest evolution of its autonomous driving system, which should also be offered on the standard version. If the power or the capacity of the battery have not yet been announced, they should be close to those of the Lyriq. As a reminder, it embeds a 100 kWh battery offering 480 kilometers of autonomy. It is associated with an electric motor of 340 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque, all sent to the rear wheels. Finally, it is possible to recover 300 km of autonomy and 30 minutes at a power of 190 kW.

Over $300,000 each?
According to information relayed by the Wall Street Journal, it is possible that each copy of this Cadillac Celestiq is sold around 300,000 dollars. In question, a handmade and totally personalized manufacturing with hundreds of 3D printed parts.
