The new Eve Motion sensor comes with a new, more compact design and Thread compatibility. What to take even more full measure in the connected home of Apple.

Apple’s connected home of tomorrow is already being prepared. And for that, it needs a galaxy of partners. Many products are already HomeKit compatible, but few are compatible with Thread, the wireless communication protocol that turns devices into relays between them.

Thread, the protocol of the future

The HomePod mini like the latest Apple TV or Google’s Nest Wi-Fi embed this technology, which is more efficient than Bluetooth and which makes it possible to extend the mesh between connected objects in the house (these are called edge routers, the connection point hub to Wi-Fi). They thus make it possible to connect light bulbs, sockets and other sensors which are equipped with Thread, a derivative of ZigBee and one of the future cornerstones of the next Matter home automation standard which should allow the interoperability of all objects.

But the Thread technologies from Apple, Google or Amazon are not necessarily compatible with each other. A new Thread 1.3 version will also soon be deployed to resolve this issue. All edge routers should therefore be interoperable and able to communicate with each other. But it will also allow updating on all devices from a single point.

The props Eve has designed its products above all to work with HomeKit. Its sensors, sockets and other devices only work with Apple and the Home app. And to prepare for the future and various future compatibilities, the brand is starting to equip its objects with Thread.

Latest announced and spotted by the site again, its famous motion detector. The Eve Motion has a new look with a new, more compact format (6.5 x 6.5 cm against 8 cm on the side on the previous model), but a look that remains identical, as do the on-board functions.

The Eve Motion works on battery and can always be placed indoors or outdoors, it is resistant to all weather conditions (IPX3). You can then create scenarios to turn on your lights when it detects you, or receive notifications on your phone if a movement has been recorded during your absence.

The detector also benefits from an intelligent light sensor. It will thus only trigger its light when it detects that daylight is insufficient. The Eve Motion is controlled via the Eve app, Home and even using Siri.

It is therefore proud of Thread in addition to Bluetooth and will therefore gain in responsiveness. It will also be used to extend the network connection at home. To work with the new protocol, it therefore needs a HomePod mini or a latest generation Apple TV for the moment. For Bluetooth, iPhones, iPads and other devices are sufficient.

Eve Motion prices and availability

The Eve Motion motion detector is available on the brand’s website and on Amazon for 39.95 euros.
