Peugeot is preparing the arrival of its e-208 electric car in Like finish. On the program: lower equipment, but more autonomy with 400 km WLTP.
Currently, the Peugeot e-208 is the best-selling car in France, both in June and in the first six months of the year. With the new version, marketed since the beginning of 2022, the range on the WLTP cycle is 362 km. This still places Peugeot’s compact behind its main competitor, the Renault Zoé, with its range of 395 km. But that was without counting on the future finish, Like, which should be marketed from August.
Indeed, according to the forum Worldscoop always well informed, Peugeot would prepare the marketing of this new finish with the opening of orders for August 19th. The document does not provide more details, except for the famous “400 km” which would therefore be the WLTP autonomy. To arrive at this figure, several solutions are possible.
Smaller wheels or a new engine?
The first is the use of 15-inch wheels instead of the current 16-inch ones. Moreover, the thermal 208, already available in Like finish, comes with 15-inch sheet metal rims. The second possibility is new optimizations, allowing Peugeot to lower the consumption of the electric motor. A user on the forum thus announces the removal of sport mode (136 hp) for a single mode, with the power of eco mode (82 hp) or normal (100 hp).
Another user understands that it is a new engine, coupled with a new battery, which will allow these gains. The new motor (Emotors M3) comes from a partnership between Stellantis and Emotors. It is expected to arrive by the end of the year in an electric car from the French group, with a power of 115 kW or 156 hp.
In our opinion, it therefore seems unlikely that the Peugeot e-208 with 400 km of autonomy will use this new engine. It would rather be about reducing the size of the rims and hypothetically reducing the power. In any case, this Peugeot e-208 Like should be marketed at a price lower than the 34,550 euros claimed by Peugeot for the Active finish. Official answer within a few weeks.
