The head of the Russian space program has announced that Russia will withdraw from the International Space Station after 2024.
Yuri Borisov, head of Roscosmos, explained that Russia will focus on building its own space station, which will be the successor to the Mir station, reports Engadget.
Russia and its cosmonauts will remain on the International Space Station for at least the next two and a half years to fulfill obligations to partners. Earlier this month, NASA and Roscosmos signed an agreement to swap seats on flights to the ISS starting in September. So NASA astronauts will rejoin the Soyuz flights, while the Russian cosmonauts will travel on the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft.
