Samsung’s rugged portable solid-state drive features durability and fast, consistent performance for creative professionals and on-the-go users

  • The external SSD-disk the size of a credit card allows for incredibly fast data transfer, and boasts a design solution that is resistant to water and dust, which makes it ideal for creating content outdoors and indoors.
  • With no performance degradation when transferring large files, the T7 Shield is perfect for shooting and editing high-definition video

Portable SSD-disk T7 Shieldan external data storage device, features exceptional performance and reliability as well as a durable credit card-sized design.

It is the latest member of the Samsung T7 family of portable SSD drives to which they belong: a drive for everyday use with an incredibly high speed in an elegant design solution called T7 and T7 Touch,1 CES award-winning portable solid-state drive that has a built-in fingerprint reader for additional data protection.

“Creative professional users and consumers want durable and reliable solid state drives with exceptional performance, as well as the assurance that their data will be protected even if the device is dropped on the ground, comes into contact with water or is used outdoors,” noted KyuYoung Lee, vice president of the Memory Brand Product Biz Team of Samsung Electronics and added that the T7 Shield has exceptional compatibility, so consumers can use it with a variety of devices, including computers, smartphones with the Android operating system, and gaming consoles.

T7 Shield is Samsung’s most durable portable SSD drive. As such, it’s perfect for outdoor content creators or travelers who work with huge data files and don’t want to worry about losing information due to accidents or exposure to the elements. The device was completely designed and manufactured by Samsung, so it is resistant to shocks when falling from a height of up to three meters.2 At the same time, it carries the IP65 mark, which proves its resistance to the effects of dust and water.3 Despite the new, rougher exterior, the T7 Shield is compact and light – it weighs only 98 grams.

Outstanding performance

The T7 Shield portable solid-state drive has a data read speed of 1050 megabytes per second (MB/s), as well as a write speed of 1000 MB/s,4 which are the highest transfer speeds currently available with the USB 3.2 Gen2 standard.5 It is approximately twice as fast as its predecessor, the portable SSD-disk T5, and up to 9.5 times faster than external hard disks (HDD-disks).6 which saves consumers – creators of digital content and professional users – precious time.

In addition, Samsung has optimized both the inside and the outside of the device, changing the surface material and improving the software solution for the T7 Shield, thus solving the problems of performance degradation and overheating that occur when transferring large files. Thanks to this change, there is no performance degradation with this SSD even when transferring 2 TB of data at once. At the same time, the amount of heat generated during transmission is minimized, thus avoiding any inconvenience that users might experience. All this enables stable data transfer without any reduction in the level of performance of the disk itself,7 even when performing data-heavy and continuous tasks such as recording high-quality video content, editing content, encoding or rendering. Users therefore do not have to worry about possible inconsistent disk performance.

Compatibility and security

Samsung’s portable SSD T7 Shield is compatible with various devices and can store a large number of photos, games and 4K or 8K videos, whether it is a computer, Mac, smartphone (Android) or game console.8 In addition, the T7 Shield features advanced security (*256-bit AES encryption) with hardware encryption, so user data is protected and secure, even in case of disk loss. In addition, this SSD gives users access to Samsung’s Magician Software software solution9 which facilitates disk management.

Ecological packaging

As with Samsung’s other portable SSDs, the T7 Shield requires only one-third the packaging of previous generations of SSDs. In addition, the new disc boasts lower greenhouse gas emissions during the manufacturing process – thanks to greater production efficiency.

The portable SSD drive is available in beige, black and blue and in 1 TB and 2 TB variants, making it suitable for a variety of purposes. It comes with two types of cables: USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A, as well as a three-year warranty.

2 The device drop test was performed under controlled conditions. Drop impact resistance may vary depending on actual environmental conditions. Damage caused by a fall is not covered by the warranty provided.
*Test condition: the device is dropped on a metal plate from a height of three meters.

3 The degree of protection of electronic equipment (Ingress Protection) represents the degree of protection against water and dust provided by the mechanical and electrical housing of the device. The T7 Shield is IP65 rated based on internal testing performed under controlled conditions. Water and dust resistance may vary depending on actual environmental conditions. Damage caused by water and dust is not covered by the warranty.
**IPX5 test condition: the device is exposed to fresh water from a 6.3 mm diameter nozzle (12.5 l/min), at a distance of three meters and for three minutes.
**IP6X test condition: the device is exposed to active dust of 2 kg/m³ under a pressure of 2 kPa for 8 hours in a vacuum container.

4 Tested system configuration: ASUS Z270 ROG MAXIMUS IX HERO (USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C), Intel (R) Core (TM) i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz, OS- Windows 10 19H2.

5 USB 3.2 Gen2 is a standard protocol found on most consumer and professional notebook models. Data flow is limited by the slot on the device, not the SSD. Performance may vary depending on the configuration of the connected device. To reach the maximum read/write speeds of 1050/1000 MB/s, the connected device and cables must support USB 3.2 Gen2 and UASP mode must be enabled.

7 Sequential write speed on the T7 Shield SSD remains above 900 MB/s on the 1 TB device and 1,000 MB/s on the 2 TB device – at room temperature (25).

8 Compatibility with connected devices may vary. Some operating systems may require the T7 Shield SSD to be reformatted.
