The rumors have been around for a few weeks, but today as part of the new beta versions, Apple confirmed it: iPadOS 16 will be released later than planned. Surprisingly, however, the group released Beta 1 of iPadOS 16.1. Apple told TechCrunch:
“This is an especially big year for iPadOS. As a proprietary platform with features built specifically for iPad, we have the flexibility to release iPadOS on our own schedule. This fall, iPadOS will ship after iOS as version 16.1 as a free software update.”
iPadOS 16 will not appear
In other words, iPadOS 16 will likely never see the light of day. Instead, version 16.1 will be released later directly. As previously assumed, this will probably be the case in October.
Apple does not give official reasons, but problems with Stage Manager would be obvious.
