iPhone 14 and 14 Pro both get OLED screens (but…) | TechBuzz

There will soon be some differences between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. Apple most likely uses different types of OLED screens. The Pro model will be a higher-end smartphone compared to the base model, so this is not very strange. In addition, there will undoubtedly be more such differences in the future.

The iPhone 14 Pro will soon have an OLED screen that consists of more modern components compared to the base model, writes The Elec. Samsung, the supplier, will soon also use this type of panel for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4. The material that Samsung uses is called M12.

iPhone 14 Pro with more modern screen?

In fact, the type of material that manufacturers use for OLED panels determines the quality of the colors red, green and blue. More advanced materials (possibly) mean better color rendering or better quality in general. That sounds like something that you want to offer in a high-end smartphone.

If the iPhone 14 Pro will soon receive the M12 material, this implies that the base model will receive M11. The reason for this can be very simple: a company naturally tries to save money in all kinds of ways. That also applies to Apple, especially in a time when materials are scarce and above all very expensive.

Not the only difference

Incidentally, this is – so far – not the only difference that comes out of the rumor mill. The cheaper versions of the iPhone 14 are reportedly getting a low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin-film transistor (TFT) OLED panel. That is less advanced than the low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) TFT OLED in de Pro en Pro Max.

Third-party iOS apps will soon take full advantage of ProMotion

For a ProMotion display, with which you can achieve a variable refresh rate of 120 Hertz, you need an LTPO TFT OLED screen. From this we can already conclude that – provided the rumors are correct – the basic models of the iPhone 14 line will not get ProMotion screens. Obviously, all this news is unconfirmed by Apple.
