If we are to believe the most recent rumors, the iPhone will receive 14 Reverse Wireless Charging. In this way it is possible to charge other products on the back of your iPhone. A handy addition that will not be available immediately at launch.
For most iPhones, you can charge them wirelessly using various MagSafe accessories. Reverse charging is not yet possible, however. The new iPhone 14 and iOS 16 change that. Although it will take some time before you as a consumer can get started with the functionality.
Reverse charging iPhone extended?
Tipgver McGuire Word late on Twitter know that the functionality is coming. The iPhone 14 has improved Magsafe magnets, which makes it possible to charge other devices wirelessly. Something that is already possible with various smartphones from the Android side of the market at the moment.
Gorilla Glass Victus, no major changes there. Wireless charging coil will have the ability to do proper RWC but not at launch. iOS 16.5 is my best estimate. MagSafe magnets are slightly stronger, nothing major. New MagSafe battery is larger so it’s heavier.

This does not happen immediately at launch, but at a later moment. iOS 16.5 is expected to be the update in which Reverse Wireless Charging will be applied. That simply means that the smartphone will only get the functionality in the course of next year. Whether Apple will also announce the feature during its presentation in September is the question.
This does offer possibilities
The addition of the functionality does of course bring a lot of new possibilities. For example, you could use the iPhone 14 as a power bank for, for example, a speaker. Anyone sitting in the park or on the beach could therefore enjoy music for longer if that is possible. Although such a speaker must have MagSafe support.
The way Apple handles wireless charging doesn’t make you likely to charge another iPhone. The coils and magnets for charging are precisely laid out so that they always make good contact with MagSafe accessories. The iPhone is also always firmly attached to those products, because the magnetic poles find each other perfectly. This will not work if you put two iPhones together.
