Sony has announced a 10% price increase for its PlayStation 5. For you, is it too expensive or is the console still worth it? Tell us in our poll of the week.
This week, Sony announced a price increase of around 10% for its latest home console, the PlayStation 5. Concretely, since August 25, the PlayStation 5 has seen its price increase from 500 to 550 euros, while that the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition has gone from 400 to 450 euros. A price increase that Sony justifies by the challenge of “the global economic environment”. It must be clearly understood that inflation has gone through this, as has the change in the value of the euro against the dollar.
Following Sony’s announcement, Microsoft and Nintendo responded by indicating, for their part, that no price changes were planned for their own consoles. At Microsoft, the Xbox Series X will therefore remain at 499 euros while the Xbox Series S will still be displayed at 300 euros. At Nintendo, there are no plans to increase the price of the Nintendo Switch either. Remember that Nintendo does not offer a recommended retail price and leaves it up to resellers to set their prices.
If an increase in the price of the PlayStation 5 of around 10% – 12.5% in the case of the Digital Edition – is frightening, remember that the increase remains lower than the price of a single game. AAA sold on PlayStation. Sony has indeed allowed publishers to now sell their games at the price of 80 euros on its platform. Concretely, the PlayStation 5 therefore remains cheaper than the price of a PS5 and a game was a week ago.
