Mark Zuckerberg has given details on the commercial timetable for his next virtual reality headset, known under the code name “Project Cambria”. October should be Meta’s chosen shooting window.
Let virtual reality fans be reassured, the wait is not very long before discovering the next virtual reality headset signed Meta. Known under the code name “Project Cambria”, this device will be similar to the Pro version of the current Meta Quest 2.
If some naturally want to name it Meta Quest 2 Pro, a report of Bloomberg published in July 2022 and based on leaked code, evokes another name: Meta Quest Pro, quite simply.
See you in October
The fact is that Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, was quite talkative during his stint on Joe Rogan’s podcast, relays The Verge. The interested party notably discussed the commercial calendar of the product: the month of October will thus mark its launch date.
If we already knew that this Pro version would land before 2023, it is worth highlighting the timing chosen by the American group: two months before Christmas. The next Meta Qest could thus constitute an ideal gift for the holiday season and give the specialized press time to test it.
Mark Zuckerberg has also given some interesting technical details about his device. He talks about major innovations related to social interactions and managed by theeye trackingor eye tracking within the immersive experience.
To do this, the next Meta Quest should logically carry sensors provided for this purpose. Your virtual avatar will therefore taste a new form of life where your facial expression will match the one you do in reality.
A scary price
Frown, yawn or even smile, and your “virtual you” will do the same in real time. This is roughly the idea conveyed here by Mr. Zuckerberg.
The price is at the heart of the discussions, given the recent increase of 100 euros applied to the Meta Quest 2 (449.99 euros minimum). The Pro version should logically increase the note to exceed without too many problems the bar of 500 euros, if not more.
