Apple proves that history often repeats itself. Again and again, the US company was criticized and laughed at for its decisions – only to be right in the end and to be copied. That was the case when the headphone connection was removed, screen cuts (“notch”) and also the sorting out of the power plug from the scope of delivery are becoming more and more important.
Redmi Note 11 SE: Inexpensive Xiaomi smartphone without power supply included
Latest example: Xiaomi. The Chinese manufacturer has already omitted the power plug from some smartphones in the past, such as the Mi 11. On the one hand, these were isolated cases, on the other hand, they were high-end devices. With the Redmi Note 11 SE, on the other hand, no power plug should be included in the scope of delivery. This is indicated by a product listing on Xiaomi’s Indian website (source: MySmartPrice).
That would be a strong piece – after all, it is Xiaomi’s Redmi Note series is known for cheap prices and is aimed at people who can or only want to spend little money on a smartphone. India is also an important and highly competitive market for Xiaomi. The fact that the manufacturer itself is beginning to dispense with the power supply unit for entry-level smartphones does not bode well for Germany.
Xiaomi recently introduced a new folding cell phone:
Power supply waiver: measure against electronic waste or profit maximization?
Manufacturer often justify the omission of the mains plug in the scope of delivery with environmental protection. The elimination would help avoid e-waste, since many buyers already have several power plugs lying around at home.
Critics, on the other hand, accuse Apple, Samsung and Co. of profit maximization. Because many smartphones would not be able to access their full fast-charging capacity without a special power supply, which is why in addition to buying a new smartphone additional money would have to be spent on the right power pack.
