Let’s start with Apple – the company is changing a few small things in the iTunes directory. In this way, an email address is no longer absolutely necessary in the feed, and the owner tag also disappears.
“The owner tag () and its contact information, including email, are no longer recommended. Apple requires creators to have an active Apple ID to submit a submission. Users who have been granted an admin role in Apple Podcasts Connect will be contacted via the email associated with their Apple ID when needed. Creators can also add an email address for each show in Apple Podcasts Connect.”
There will now be a unique key (GUID) that will identify podcasts and feeds. How this should look exactly is not yet entirely clear. The ID should also distinguish between individual episodes.
Podcast mix: Apple releases in 24 hours
There is also news in the release process, new shows should be available in the catalog immediately. The initial release of a podcast should be completed in 24 hours. Apple formulates this as “can take up to 24 hours”, but in reality a few days often passed in the past…
Podcast mix: YouTube with its own page
Google is also continuing to jump on the podcast train, here even with YouTube. There is a new landing page that specializes only in the topic. Admittedly, this is not really attractive yet, we expect some changes in the next few days and weeks. The site is currently only available in the US.
