The future Sonos Optimo 2 is revealed in an article from “The Verge”. The company would rely on a speaker system in all directions.
In addition to preparing a new subwoofer, the Sub Mini, Sonos would seek to refocus on high-end products, we learn The Verge. The firm specializing in audio would work on a new wireless speaker internally called Optimo 2.
According to the specialized site, the Optimo 2 would mark “a substantial design evolution over existing Sonos products, such as the Sonos One, Five, Arc, Beam and Roam”. The device would adopt a more “funky” design, in the form of a double-angle shell. Moreover, on the subject that interests us, namely the sound, Sonos would base great ambitions. The brand would simply like to make it its most efficient speaker it has ever produced.
The arsenal of the Optimo 2
To do this, Sonos would integrate a range of speakers, “including several that shoot in different directions from the underside of the shell, between the front speaker grille and the back plate”always teaches us The Verge. Enough to enjoy Dolby Atmos as it should be. It would also carry twice as much RAM and eight times as much flash memory as any Sonos product so far. It should also benefit from a long period of software support.
The speaker would also integrate microphones in order to optimize its performance depending on where it broadcasts. These microphones would also offer the integration of voice control.
If the 3D reconstruction published by the site represents the speaker with an orange color, it will be more to expect a more traditional white and black duo. The small rectangle in the front is supposed to represent where the Sono logo would be.
A line input via USB-C
In terms of functionality, the Sonos Optimo 2 would support music playback via WiFi and of course Bluetooth, but also via a USB-C input on the back of the device. It would therefore be the second Sonos device, with the Five, to integrate a line input, but also the first speaker to do so via USB-C.
If his name includes the number 2, it is not for nothing. Indeed, the Optimo 2 would be the best product of a new range integrating an Optimo 1 and an Optimo 1 SL, SL indicating that it would not include microphones. All three products would accompany a major Sonos software update, unlocking new features.
