Apple’s Studio Display is an impressive display that unfortunately suffered from some problems. Fortunately, there is not only a temporary solution to these problems, but Apple is also coming with an update. Jeroen explains exactly how it works.
When the Studio Display was presented in March this year, many Apple users were very enthusiastic. Mark also said in his review that he was very pleased with the image and sound. However, there are problems with the speakers for some users. Fortunately, there is an update that brings you great sound quality again.
Problems with the Studio Display
On Twitter and various internet forums, users are complaining about problems with the Studio Display’s speakers. These are all different, by the way. For example, users suffer from:
- Distorted sound quality
- High speed audio playback
- The sound that abruptly cuts off
- Choppy audio
They are problems that you do not want. Especially because the Studio Display, with a starting price of 1,779 euros, has a hefty price tag. Fortunately, you don’t have to drag it back to the store, because there is a solution. The problem is in the software, not the hardware.

The new 15.5 version for the Studio Display
Apple today released version 15.5 of the Studio Display firmware. It is now 2 months since the last update. In this version the speakers are addressed. You can find this in System Preferences and then select Software-update. Let’s hope this resolves everything.
If that is not entirely the case or the update is not yet ready for you, you can also try the following:
This is how you solve the problems without an update
The solution to the speaker problems of the Studio Display comes from Apple itself. The company sent a memo to authorized service providers earlier this week. Subsequently, the editors of MacRumors got their hands on the information and shared it. Exactly why I can tell you what to do. You must follow these steps to resolve the issue.
- Unplug the Studio Display.
- Remove all accessories and devices from the screen.
- Wait ten seconds and then plug the cable back in.
As mentioned, the solution is temporary to stop the problems. So if you don’t have the update available yet, or if it doesn’t work at all, this is the way to fix it for a while.
