Still expected for the end of 2022, the Tesla Semi is no longer available for order since today. The manufacturer then seems to have filled up its order book and prefers to stay there for the moment. In addition, we learn that the famous electric truck will not be exactly as some expected.
Tesla’s electric truck, the Semi, is long overdue, but it looks like the first deliveries will be well and truly this year. There hadn’t really been any news following its announcement five years ago, but the manufacturer’s website was quietly updated, sharing new information, and also removing the possibility of placing a new order. .
The order book seems full
Until now, people wishing to reserve a Tesla Semi could do so directly on the Tesla site, as is customary for cars from the firm of Elon Musk. It would seem that the order book for the semi-trailer is sufficiently full now, since it no longer appears possible to order a Tesla Semi on the American site.
Announced at a price of 150,000 dollars for the basic version (480 km of autonomy) and 180,000 dollars for the version equipped with a larger battery (800 km of autonomy), the prices have now also disappeared of the website, suggesting a future price increase.
Still, the latest laws passed in the United States with the aim of limiting inflation should benefit the Tesla Semi, which would be eligible for a reduction of 40,000 dollars in taxes, or an ecological bonus equivalent to 30 % of the price, which should lower the price to be paid by customers.
Farewell to the four engines, there are only three left
In addition to the disappearance of prices and the impossibility of ordering, the Tesla Semi has also lost a motor, since today it is indicated with three independent motors located on the rear axle. Until now, four engines were expected, but it seems that this is no longer relevant.
The automaker has also shared some new interior shots, as you can see above, making the Semi that some big customers like Pepsi and UPS have been waiting for a little more real.
Low consumption and high charging power
Among the features that can be found today on the page dedicated to its electric truck, Tesla recalls that the fast charge will recover 70% of the autonomy in 30 minutes, and that the 0 to 100 km / h will take a little more than 20 seconds. Finally, advertised fuel savings estimates are $200,000 over three years, which would pay for the Tesla Semi in a very short time. The American manufacturer thus announces a consumption of less than 2 kWh for 1 mile (1.6 km) with a load of 37 tons. That’s barely twice as much as a Ford F-150 towing a trailer.
For charging, the media Electrek estimates an average power of 1.4 Mw (1,400 kW), i.e. a higher maximum power! We will probably see if the reality is far from these announcements or not by the end of the year.
