Were you saving in the hope that a new Switch much more powerful than current models would be available soon? You can certainly relax your financial effort: Nintendo does not plan to launch a new product of this kind for at least a year. So don’t expect to have this Switch – still hypothetical – under the Christmas tree.
Nintendo remains very discreet today about its future console intentions. It was during the presentation of the fiscal results that the Japanese brand ruled out the prospect of a launch in the coming months. The information, released by the Japanese daily Nikkei, and taken over by Frandroid, thus sweeps away any chance of seeing a new console before March 2023.
A window of opportunity in 2023 for a new Switch
This period marks the end of the company’s fiscal year. It is from these statements that we can deduce the absence of a launch in 2022 and in the first months of the following year. And then ? Corridor noises agree for the arrival of a new Nintendo Switch, on a date still uncertain. It could be the Switch Pro, a long-awaited release.
The classic Nintendo Switch, released in 2017, received two upgrades. In 2019, the Switch Lite was released, an exclusively portable version of the console. Then in 2021 came the Switch OLED, which is basically a screen upgrade along with some peripheral improvements. But the technical data sheet has not fundamentally changed.
2023 appears to be the right window for Nintendo if the manufacturer has plans for a new Switch. Two years will have passed since the Switch OLED. In addition, this would be an opportunity to breathe new life into a console that is widely appreciated, but whose components are aging. They’re based on what the industry was offering in 2017 — or even before. An update would be welcome.
