Are you waiting for a MacBook Pro with an M2 Pro or M2 Max chip? Then you’re out of luck. That laptop is not coming for the time being, if we are to believe the latest reports.
We all know that there will be a MacBook Pro with an M2 Pro or M2 Max chip. The big question, of course, is when. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had some good news for us last month. He expected the new laptop to hit the market with the new chip in the fall of this year. However, it seems that we will have to wait a little longer.
A new MacBook Pro
This news comes from noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He now says that the 14-inch and 16-inch variants will only be produced from Q4. That probably won’t happen with the M2 Pro or Max. Given his previous track record in Apple’s laptops, this seems likely to be the case.
The new MacBook Pro that is planned uses the same 5nm node as that of the new MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro 13-inch. That points to the current M2 chip. However, we will have to wait and see, because of course you never know with Apple.
Just waiting for the M2 Pro and Max
The M2 Pro and Max probably use the 3nm process from Taiwanese TSMC. It appears that it will not be produced until mid-2023. That means that a MacBook Pro with that processor will take a while.
A month later and the M2 MacBook Air is still out of stock
The big question is, of course, what exactly the M2 Pro and Max have to offer. According to Gurman, the new chip focuses mainly on the graphics side, so it follows the M1 Pro and Max. Nevertheless, it is hoped that the chips will also do something about the current problems of the regular M2 MacBook Pro. It has slower SSD speeds compared to the M1 MacBook Pro.
