Technology can develop at lightning speed. Before the iPhone, the iPod was without a doubt one of the most popular gadgets in the world. Do you still have it in the attic? Then OMT editor Jeroen Kraak has good news for you!
Before using your iPhone, there were other ways to listen to music. We can of course go back to the Walkman and Discman, but the MP3 player made it really simple. Different brands had their own version on the market, but Apple’s iPod was by far the most impressive. The sleek combination of design and functionality was something we hadn’t seen before.
The top prize for the iPhone and iPad
The iPod changed the way we listened to music and eventually the iPhone spawned again. That smartphone, in turn, changed the use of the mobile phone. So they have been inventions with significant historical value. That is also reflected in an Apple auction of auction house RR, because the devices fetched tens of thousands of dollars.
The secret button on your iPhone you probably didn’t notice
If you think that you can just take your old iPhone or iPod off the shelf and sell it, you are wrong. It will probably bring in money, but not as much as during this auction. The special thing is that these products are still in the original packaging and are also sealed. When you’ve done that, you can make room for the sound of a ringing cash register.
A first-generation iPhone that was still in the plastic sold for $35,000. A first-generation iPod had to make do with less. It changed hands for $25,000.
Steve Jobs makes even more money
However, it can be even crazier. The same auction also featured a rare Apple-1 prototype once owned by Steve Jobs. This yielded $ 677,196. Steve Jobs stuff is very popular anyway. Earlier this year, a signed note from Jobs raised $55,000.
So if you still have an old iPhone or iPad in the original box, they can still generate a lot of money. In any case, it’s a good excuse to clean out the attic.
