With the internet posing numerous threats to children’s safety these days, many modern parents are turning to monitoring apps to monitor what their children are doing online. Today, there are many services that will help parents monitor the activities of minors, and one that stands out from the crowd is uMobix.

This is a mobile application that allows users to monitor the activities of targeted mobile phones through an online control panel. We’ve spent some time using the uMobix app, and this review will go over our experience with its features and performance.

What is uMobix anyway and what is it for?

uMobix is a parental control app for Android/iOS devices. To start tracking, parents need to download and install the app on their child’s device. Obviously, there’s an ethical question about whether you should feel comfortable monitoring your kids, so before you turn to apps like uMobix, make sure you really think about the implications. It might be a good idea to talk to your child before installing a tracking app on their phone.

Installation and setup

First things first: you’ll need to create an account on the official uMobix website and choose what type of device (Android or iOS) your child has. Please note that you will need to agree to sign up for one of the three subscription plans to proceed to the next step. Once selected, you will receive your uMobix account credentials and registration code to your email. You will then need to get your child’s phone, access the uMobix page and log in with the provided information. This will take you to a page with a list of instructions on how to install the app on your child’s phone. The steps are pretty easy to follow, and you should be able to do this without any problems.

You will need to download the uMobix .apk file and select “Auto Install”. This will automatically disable some security options like “Scan apps with Play Protect” from Google Play Store and allow your device to install apps from unknown sources. There is also a “manual setup” option, where uMobix carefully guides you through the process, so you have nothing to worry about.

Installation of tools

The app also needs you to grant a few more permissions, such as allowing uMobix to activate keylogger tracking, and most importantly, start screen recording. This can also be done automatically. The tracker can disguise itself under the name “Play Services” and even display an icon similar to Google’s own legitimate Play Services app to avoid detection. However, while the uMobix app is active on the child’s phone, a screen switching icon will be displayed in the upper right corner of the screen.

Overall, installing the app on your child’s phone will be a simple experience. We loved how simple it turned out to be. We just followed the given steps and managed to get uMobix up and running in less than three minutes. You won’t need any advanced technical skills to install this app on your child’s smartphone.

Tool options

With the app installed on your child’s phone, all you have to do is sit back and wait for them to start using their phone. When enough time has passed, go to your computer or mobile device, open your browser and access the uMobix page. Sign in with your credentials to access your dashboard. Here you will get an overview of the data being tracked.

At a glance, you will immediately be able to see important information such as the current location of the device and the last visited addresses. This is extremely important, especially if your child is missing, and uMobix rightly puts this section at the very top.

In addition, as you scroll through the main page, you will also be able to discover the most frequently called numbers from the device, the most recently added contacts, the most used applications and the number of interactions associated with them.

Possibilities

On the right side of the screen, you will notice an additional menu that you should explore to get an idea of what your child is up to when using a mobile device. Here are some features to explore:

  • Browser History – You can access all the links that have been opened from the target device. What’s more, you can block these links directly from your dashboard.
  • Keylogger – displays every message typed from the target device and also indicates the application from which it was sent.
  • Wi-Fi – Displays all Wi-Fi networks the target device is connected to and gives you the option to block them from the dashboard.
  • Video calling app monitoring – If the target device is using video calling apps, such as Google Duo, you will be able to see a series of screenshots taken during the call. Simply access the appropriate application folder from the left side of the screen and click on them.

  • Social App Monitoring – uMobix offers detailed data about your child’s activity on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Tinder and more. You’ll find messages, viewed profiles, pages you like, and more.

uMobix

  • App Activity – Provides an overview of all apps installed or uninstalled on the target device, and you can choose to block apps from the dashboard. Alternatively, there is an option to delete.

Most features work as intended. However, if your child has the internet turned off on their device, the app will not register their location. Therefore, you will notice that information is missing during the time when the device is disconnected from the network.

Tool reliability

Overall, uMobix works perfectly well and tracks every movement made on the device. It can’t miss a thing, so it’s the perfect tool to stay informed about your child’s online activities. What’s more, the app lets you take action when needed, allowing you to block or delete inappropriate apps or websites.

Our only concern, however, is that uMobix could be discovered by kids with a little more technical knowledge. As mentioned above, the top right corner of the screen shows a small icon to change the screen, so it can be noticed. Therefore, it is worth discussing your intentions with them in advance.

How to turn off tracking capabilities in this tool?

Decided you’ve had enough of tracking your child’s device? It’s time to remove the uMobix app from the phone in question, but it can be a bit tricky. Simply finding the app in the Apps section of Settings and then hitting uninstall may not work on some target devices (including ours).

What solved the problem for us was going to “Settings -> Accessibility” and finding the “Play services” option under “Downloaded Apps”. From there we included an option to instruct uMobix to stop tracking. Next, go to your uMobix dashboard and access settings by tapping on your name in the top right corner and selecting an option. Below you have the option to disconnect from the device. Click that button.

Tool price

To use uMobix’s advanced tracking capabilities, you’ll need to sign up with one of the three available subscription packages:

  • 1 month (full package) – $49.99
  • 3 months (full package) – $27.99
  • 12 months (full package) – $11.66

All three subscriptions offer a full suite of options, although they vary depending on the type of device you want to track. In fact, the iOS version is currently quite limited, as you won’t have access to keylogger data, as well as GPS location, list of installed apps, browser usage history, and more. This is something you need to know before signing up for uMobix, so check out the full list. (You will need to add your email and select the type of device you want to track).

Final word

If you’re looking to track an Android device, then uMobix can offer you the insight you’re looking for. For iOS, the features are not as abundant, but you can still see essential information, such as call logs, text messages, online status, and WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger data. Depending on your needs, it might be enough.

Using uMobix, we appreciate that the app is super easy to set up and can deliver an unparalleled amount of data directly to your dashboard. You get full control to decide which apps and services are safe to use. Based on our testing, most of the information is correct. On the other hand, what we didn’t like so much is that removing the uMobix app from the target device is not that intuitive. Overall, uMobix has provided us with a robust experience that can easily offer peace of mind to concerned parents.
