The story of a visually stunning odyssey where nothing is what it seems.
Written by Jantje Friese and directed by Baran bo Odar, the TV series 1899 – which stars the likes of Emily Beecham, Anuerin Barnard, Andreas Pietschmann and Miguel Bernardeau – follows the passengers of a massive steamship, who come from diverse cultures and backgrounds, but are united in their quest for a better life in United States. They encounter another migrant boat, the Prometheus, adrift in the open sea, which turns their trip into a horrible nightmare.
A teaser for 1899
1899 will soon be available on Netflix.
The 1899 production took place on a new, state-of-the-art virtual production stage set up at the Babelsberg studios in Germany – the largest such facility in Europe. 1899 is the result of the global production agreement between the duo Jantje Friese-Baran bo Odar and the streaming platform Netflix, concluded in 2018 and valid until next year. This was the first of its kind in Europe for Netflix at the time and stemmed from the unexpected success of Dark.
