ROG Phone 6D Ultimate, for the most demanding mobile gamers. Very successful cooling and impressive performance.
After launching the ROG Phone 6 Pro, some fans were waiting for an Ultimate variant. ASUS let two months pass before unveiling the ROG Phone 6D Ultimatea device identical to the 6 Pro, but with a “space gray” colorway, a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chip (hence the D in the name), LPDDR5X RAM and the new AeroActive Portal sign for better heat dissipation.

The AeroActive Portal is a small port that opens when the AeroActive Cooler 6 is attached, so that some of the cold air produced by the fan – at 1000 cc per second – is guided through a tunnel and into the heatsink, with the hot air coming from above. The heatsink is linked to the large thermal layers that cover the circuit and the battery cells, to transfer the heat from the components to the airflow. This makes it possible to maintain high performance for a long time, without overheating the device.
ASUS claims that after 60 minutes of Perfdog benchmarking on Genshin Impact At 60Hz in air cooling mode, ROG Phone 6D reaches 36.9°C, 3.4°C cooler than ROG Phone 6 in the same mode. This is to say that the AeroActive Portal seems to make a big difference. Although the AeroActive Portal only engages when the AeroActive Cooler 6 is attached, you can temporarily open it through Settings to clean it up. The opening is otherwise well closed to preserve the IPX4 resistance. There is also a fall detection system to automatically close the opening, and the motor can normally withstand more than 40,000 cycles – the system has proven itself with the Flip Camera of Zenfone smartphones -.

The 6D Ultimate offers the same features as the 6 Pro: 6.78-inch 165Hz AMOLED display, 720Hz touch sampling rate, up to 512GB RAM, 6,000mAh battery, 65W fast charging (42 minutes), Dirac front-firing stereo speakers, ultrasonic AirTriggers, and a customizable ROG Vision color display on the back. We also find the same camera module: 50 MP main lens with Sony IMX766 sensor, 13 MP ultra-wide sensor and 5 MP macro sensor. On the front, a 12 MP lens with Sony IMX663 sensor.
For the processor, ASUS created a surprise by going to MediaTek with its Dimensity 9000+ chip, which normally does better on benchmarks than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip of the ROG Phone 6. The company adds that if the latter embeds a better GPU, the Dimensity chip CPU is 10% more powerful (with the same maximum clock frequency of 3.2 GHz), which is more important for mobile games. The CPU is backed up by the faster LPDDR5X RAM too, and that’s why it’s limited here to 16GB versus 18GB.
The ROG Phone 6D Ultimate will be available very soon in Europe, priced at €1,399. Again, this premium model comes with AeroActive Cooler 6. There’s also the ROG Phone 6D, basically an ROG Phone 6 (with an RGB logo on the back), but with the MediaTek chip and LPDDR5X RAM. Count 949 € for the model 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.
