INFOGRAPHIC: Share of Apple’s iPhones on the market over the years
Last year, the iPhone accounted for 17.4 percent of the smartphone market, the best result since 2012 (18.7 percent) and 2011 (18.8 percent). Therefore, the crisis only helped Apple, whose business does not suffer because of the user base that is with the brand. At the same time, Apple is still doing great in China and is not taking a hit like all other non-Chinese devices.
Of course, in the beginning, it didn’t seem that everything would be this great when it comes to the iPhone, but one could sense it. Because, while in 2007 it made up 2.7 percent of the market, in 2008 it was 9.1 percent, in 2009 it was a very relevant 14.5 percent and in 2010 an explosion followed with 15.6 percent. After that, two record years followed, but also the strengthening of Android, so the numbers fell.
The bad strategy of the competition to compete with prices that in quite a few cases are above those of iPhone models only helped Apple to win over all those whose purchasing power allows them to go for devices that cost as much as $1,500.
The result is that iPhone 12 models accounted for three places among the ten best-selling smartphones last year, with the iPhone 12 being the first with a three percent share of global shipments.
